Gilded Swarm Northwest Style IPA

ABV: 7.5%

The fine folks at Wicked Rain are celebrating their 4th anniversary this month, and we were honored to brew a special beer for them! We wanted to get real PNW with this one, so we took an old school approach, but then added some futuristic flair. This medium copper colored American IPA starts with some pale malt, munich, then a touch of rye and a light crystal malt. We then bittered in the kettle with Cascade and Centennial, and dry-hopped with Crosby Hops Idaho 7 CGX Nuvo, which is a brand new pelletized fresh hop product with next level aroma. We hope you enjoy our take on this classic beer style!

GILDED SWARM LEGEND

"He lifted his hand and the dragonfly swarm obeyed—wings like sparks in the heat. A skeleton miner guided them over sunburnt washes, hunting by vibration: a shiver in the dust. The swarm tightened into a living spiral circling the ground—by dusk he had found gold.”

The legend of the Dragonfly Miner is not well known. It is rumored that a widow contacted a witch to resurrect her recently deceased husband who died in the infamous Vulture Mine. It is said that he was crushed by a fallen rock wall. The widow took the witch to where her husband lay and pleaded with her to resurrect his life at any cost. The witch nodded but asked one last time... "At any cost?" The grief-stricken widow replied, "Anything!" The witch cast her spell upon the miner's broken body, whereupon sat a green-hued dragonfly. As the spell manifested, the dragonfly merged with the miner's life force and he awoke. As he stumbled to rise, large green dragonfly wings emerged from his spine. The widow was at first ecstatic but then became horrified as she saw his new wings emerge. She started choking... and convulsing. She could not breathe. She cast a terrorized look at the witch. The witch simply uttered... "You said at any cost..." The widow collapsed, unable to breathe, and passed away watching her husband stand above her... wings out, dragonflies swarming about as his sorrow exploded in anguish. He now is able to control swarms of dragonflies to find gold to fulfill that which he could not do when he was truly alive... to provide riches for his wife.
