EIN PROSIT AUF LUDWIG LEGEND
On October 12, 1810, Crown Prince Ludwig wed Princess Therese in Munich and invited the entire city to celebrate on the meadow now called Theresienwiese. For days, parades filled the streets, music and feasts filled the air, and a grand public horse race crowned the finale. A few years later, beer tents were added to the annual celebration, and over the next two centuries it grew into the world's most famous festival. Legend has it, each autumn, Ludwig's specter returns -- still draped in royal finery, still raising a stein beneath Bavarian flags -- to remind the living that a true celebration never dies. Prost!
