The Greed of Fisk and Gould Maple Chocolate Imperial Stout
ABV: 10.0%
For this year, we used a double mash technique to get the most concentrated wort we could achieve on our system, and boiled this bad boy for almost 5 hours! The grain bill starts with Maris Otter, then goes heavy on our favorite crystal malts, some oats, and specialty malts. This thick Imperial Stout is then conditioned on Vermont maple syrup and cacao nibs in order to round out this annual decadent treat.
THE GREED OF FISK AND GOULD
"In 1869, James Fisk and Jay Gould formed the Gold Ring, a plot to run up the price of gold in the country by buying as much as they could and selling it at a high price, crashing the market. They used their personal appearances with President Grant to gain clout on Wall Street and used their insider information to corner the gold market. Learning of their scheme, Grant unloaded $4 million in government gold and drove the price of gold down, crushing Fisk & Gould's Gold Ring. Because of their political affiliations, they managed to avoid any real punishment. Their greed lives on and the day of the gold panic they caused is known as Black Friday."
