APACHE THUNDER

"Conflicts between the Apache and the United States Army have been ongoing since the mid-1800's but have started to subside recently. On my most recent outing to the Superstition Mountains, I stumbled across a young Apache to whom I meant no harm. We came to an understanding quickly. He was curious why I was in the Superstitions and before I could explain, he told me a tale of how his people believe the Superstitions are guarded by a Thunder God whose anger comes in the heat of the summer to place a curse of death on any who violate or disrespect the region. Initially, I thought this nothing more than folklore to scare off invaders and left the youngster to continue searching for my uncle's mine. Alas, a torrential rain came on the heels of the loudest thunder I have ever experienced. Maybe the Thunder God is actually angry."
